IT HAS BEGUN!
...more pics can be found here...
calgary finally has received a well deserved visit from the "snow-eaters" - aka chinook winds - and all is right and fine in sunny cowtown again. the snow is rapidly melting and riding bikes is actually fun again - instead of being an exercise in just staying upright! the warm weather brought out a dozen or so polo keeners and the play was great. i rode my new IRO (see post below) for the first time and with the exception of some sketchiness (aka cog/lockring came loose!) coming down 17th ave - the bike felt great and i love it!

MY ONE NEW BIKE FOR 2009
today i present to you...my new polo/fixie machine. she's a 'beaut eh! i love red bikes - they always look fast, even sitting still. i havent been able to take it outside yet however i have ridden it on the rollers a few times and it feels really nice so far.
maybe the warm weather predicted for the next few days will bring a polo game along too?!

NEWS FLASH - DOUGLAS FIR TRAIL DESTROYED BY LANDSLIDE
...more pics can be found here.
jesse and i went for a little hike on the douglas fir trail yesterday and came across this destruction. it appears that the hillside above the trail 100m wide by 100m long has slid and it looks like more is going to come down soon. if we get the warm weather this week that is predicted we could see this whole slope go down. scary stuff.

WINTER IN CALGARY
old man winter's bitter grasp on my city has eased - just slightly - and i took the opportuntiy to get out on the xc skis for the first time this winter. one of the benefits of this hard, snowy, cold winter so far is that the golf course by my house has been trackset and there is close to 8kms of groomed xc trails that are in really good shape. in the ten years i have lived here this is the best i've seen these trails - so, might as well enjoy it before a chinook comes in and melts everything. i think if the weather holds i will try loading the xc stuff on my xtracycle and maybe ride over instead of driving...
